Due to the unique use cases for each area of the tool individualized notation systems were needed. The note system created for Features (customizable logic) shares attributes with the note system created for vehicles.
Vehicle Notes
During several user interactions, it became clear to the team that technicians lacked a way to make notes about a vehicle. There was a significant need for a system to save user-generated information within CHEC, ensuring that any technician interacting with the vehicle in the future could access these notes.
In response, the vehicle notation system was developed with more functionality than originally outlined in the user story. This expanded approach allowed users to create notes specific to individual pages, with each note tagged to indicate the relevant area of the vehicle.
These location tags, displayed alongside the note content, enable users to filter notes based on the specific areas of the vehicle they are working on. This filtering capability ensures that users can focus only on the most relevant information, improving efficiency and clarity when interacting with the truck.
Custom Logic Notes
When the ability to create custom logic was first introduced, a basic notation system was developed to support it. As users became more familiar with the tool’s capabilities, the complexity of their custom logic grew. This increase in complexity highlighted the need for an update to the notation system, allowing users to add more detailed and granular notes.
To address this, a note-tagging system—similar to the one used for vehicle notes—was integrated into the existing framework. To simplify the user experience and reduce visual clutter, the notes were moved from their original location, which had been tied to a single content area, to a new, dedicated access point. This new system makes notes accessible from any element within the custom logic.
